Shirley May Sherwood, 77, of Church Street in St. Johnsbury, Vt., passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018, at St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center. Shirley was a 30-year breast cancer survivor.
Shirley was born in Bridgeport, Conn., on March 23, 1941, daughter to Edward Mott and Mary Vogel. She was raised and educated in Danbury, Conn. She worked as a seamstress for many years in Connecticut and also here in St. Johnsbury after moving to this area in 1984 where she lived for 32 years with her mother on Pearl Street. Shirley’s big passion was going to yard sales. If you ever needed anything, she would get it for you and give it to you. She would pack a lunch and go yardsaling for the day, even ending up in Canada at one point. She liked doting over others but did not like it in return. Shirley also enjoyed cook outs, burnt hotdogs, being out around the fire at night and her sweets. She loved spoiling her grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by her children, 2 daughters: Cathy Sherwood and husband, Phil, of Walden, Vt., and Linda Sherwood of Essex, Vt.; and 2 sons: Bill Sherwood and wife Abbey, of Waterbury, Conn., and Edward Sherwood and wife, Debbie, of Lyndonville, Vt.; a half-sister: Mary Lou of New York; her longtime best friend: Joni Paro of St. Johnsbury, Vt.; her longtime friend: Mary DeWolfe; her cousin/friend/sister: Maryann Gilliotte and husband, Bebe, of New Fairfield, Conn.; 8 grandchildren: Trisha Taylor, Jason Birch, Rebecca Lawson, Nathaniel Belliveau, Nicholas Spazziani, Adam and Avo Sherwood, and Hilary Buckley; 7 great-grandchildren; and her extended Boston family: Sue, Poppy, and Uncle Al.
She was predeceased by her mother: Mary Vogel.
