Welcome to the memorial page for

Marie Emily Louise (Humphrey) Kellogg

September 14, 1921 ~ September 9, 2017 (age 95)

Marie Louise Humphrey Kellogg, 95, widow of the late George W. Kellogg, passed away September 9, 2017 at her residence in St. Johnsbury, Vermont.  She was born September 14, 1921 in Millwall, London, England to the late James and Sarah Smith Humphrey.

Marie served in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force of the Royal British Air Force in WWII. While stationed at Cranfield Air Field, she met and married George on January 9, 1945, who was in the 306th Bombwing, stationed at Thurleigh Air Field.  She traveled on the Queen Mary in February 1946 to the United States where she followed her husband throughout the US as he served in the USAF. One of her greatest documented adventures was driving across Canada on a 17 day trip to Fairbanks, Alaska with two young children in 1952.  She moved to Vermont in 1965 after spending many summers at the family camp, Tokumto, on Joe’s Pond. An avid reader, Marie worked for twenty years at the St. Johnsbury Atheneum.  After retirement, she became a loyal morning swimmer at the SJA pool, volunteered at the Fairbanks Museum, and traveled to England and throughout the United States visiting family and friends.  She wrote diligently for twenty years completing over 20 journals of her daily activities.  Up until the last years, she attended Grace United Methodist Church with her good friends Edie and Bill Goff, but was a member of the North Congregational Church.

Marie is survived by a son: James Kellogg and his wife, Lori, of St. Johnsbury; two daughters: Kerry Labombard and husband, Steve, of Tucson, AZ, and Pamela Showalter of Santo, TX; five grandchildren: Amy L. Whitman and husband, Todd, Sarah L. Pfannenstiel and husband, Joe, Carly S. Chestnut and husband, Cory, Aren J. Kellogg and Caitlin T. Kellogg; great-grandchildren: Grayson, John, Clayton, Markus, Trenton, Ava, and Jacob; in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Marie was predeceased in death by brothers: John, William, Edward, James, and Edwin Humphrey; sisters: Elisabeth Humphrey and Ann Bransgrove.

Marie was blessed to be able to spend her final days at her home with the support of her family and hospice. Thank you to all of the staff of hospice, Dr. Mary Ready, Continuum, and Marie’s private caregivers including Christine Larocque and Jayne Rivera. A very special thank you to Carolyn Wilson whose compassion and caring gave quality to Marie’s end of life.  She had many friends throughout her life and particularly enjoyed her times with Millie and Flossie.
