Jackson G. Mitchell, Sr., 84, of Lyndonville, VT, passed away peacefully at his home on February 13, 2018.
Jackson was born in Lyndonville, VT, the son of Walter and Catherine (Webster) Mitchell on May 9, 1933. He was raised and educated in Lyndonville and was a lifelong resident. At the age of 20, Jackson joined the Army and served in Japan during the Korean War. In 1954, he married Della Cunningham and they shared 44 years together before her passing in 1998. In his early years, Jackson worked for the railroad as well as Fairbanks Scales in St. Johnsbury. But he enjoyed logging and made that his lifelong career and he taught many of his family members how to log. Jackson enjoyed animals, hunting, fishing, gardening, and sports; but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include three of his four children all of Lyndonville, son: Jackson Mitchell, Jr. (Kathleen); daughters: Cathy Peart, and Linda Ronan; 8 of his 9 grandchildren: Pauline Dwyer (Mark), Lindsey Mitchell (Ira Wheeler), Lexie Mitchell, Jackson Mitchell, III (Autumn Lund), Darcy Labounty (Mike), Wendy Mitchell, Mathew Mitchell, and Katie Fox (Roy); 13 great grandchildren: Jackson Dwyer, Keagan and Jordon Wheeler, Nevaeh, Jackson, IV and Ivy Mitchell, Lauren and Landen Labounty, Eva and Aubree Thomas, Audreyonna Mitchell, Layne Fox, Natallie Moreau and her mom, Alyssa; 3 brothers: David Mitchell (Catherine “Cappy”), Leslie Mitchell (June), and Carroll Mitchell, Sr. (Brenda); and many nieces and nephews.
Jackson was predeceased by his wife: Della; daughter: Della Lynn “Poppy” Guibord, and grandson: Brian Ronan, Jr.; sisters: Beverly Lawson and Barbara Chamberlain; brothers: Hazen and Richard Mitchell.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Jackson at the VFW in Lyndonville on Sunday, February 18, 2018. There will be time for family and friends to come together to celebrate Jackson’s life from 1:00 – 2:30 PM and concluding with remarks from Jane Fisher Kirk, a close family friend.
A private burial will take place at the Lyndon Center Cemetery in the springtime.
